| Title: | Blue Hole, Little Miami River | |
| Alt. Title: | Painting, Oil on Canvas, painted in 1851 | |
| Creator: | Duncanson, Robert S. (1821-1872), American, Cincinnat | |
| Subject: | Little Miami River. | |
| Subject: | Art -- 19th Century -- Ohio -- Cincinnati. | |
| Description: | This painting acquired its title after coming to the Museum and it seems to be accurate, as the scene depicted is remarkably similar to the "Blue Hole" on the Little Miami River as it exists today in John Bryan State Park, Ohio. The configuration of the pool, the appearance of the rock formation seen in the right of the painting and the manner in which the light falls on the water closely resemble each other in the painting and at the actual site. This pool has been known as the "Blue Hole" since the early 19th century. | |
