| Description: | "Dedicated June 28, 1874. The builidng is of pressed brick with stone trimmings, 160 feet long and 70 feet wide and has two spires, each rising to a height of 190 feet. The architecture is of the Romansque Byzantine style. Teh church complete cost over $100,000. Very Rev. Otto Jair, O.S.F., V.G., deceased founded the congregation in 1869, purchasing two lots, 150 x 190, erecting thereon a two-story brick building which served as a school and chapel, being attended from St. John's Church, until 1870 when REv. Jerome Kilgenstein, O.S.F., was appointed regular pastor. In 1872 Rev. Kilgnestein commenced the erection of the present ... structure, which was finished during the pastorate of REv. Wm. Gausepohl, O.S.F., in 1874 ... The congregation numbers 700 families." | |
